Tolls are a huge expense for many Sydney drivers. If you live in Western Sydney or in the Blue Mountains, you pay more tolls more often. Fortunately, $50 caps, M5 Cashback and multi-concessions will help you save money on tolls.
What is the toll relief cap?
The toll relief cap went down on 6 July 2026 to $50 a week. If you spend $50 to $400 a week on tolls, you can claim a rebate of up to $350 each quarter.
These are available only for personal trips in a vehicle registered for private use.
Can I get the M5 Southwest Cashback?
The M5 Southwest Cashback is for drivers who have paid M5 Southwest tolls while making personal trips.
Register with your toll tag provider and make claims once a quarter.
What is the multi-concession tolling scheme?
This tolling scheme means tolls on WestConnex are capped after 16 kms of continuous travel. Your trip is handled as a single toll transaction, no matter how many WestConnex motorways you use.
As at August 2026, the WestConnex toll is capped at $12.74.
Can I get the large towed vehicle toll rebate?
If you own a caravan, boat or horse float and have paid Class B tolls, you can claim the large towed vehicle rebate. The rebate is the difference between Class A and Class B toll fees for up to 8 tolled trips each month.
- Register for the scheme through your toll tag provider.
- You can claim within 12 months of receiving your toll statement.
- This rebate doesn’t apply to motorhomes or Sydney harbour crossings.
What’s coming next for tolls?
Many tolls will go down during 2027 and 2028.
From 1 July 2027, some tolls will fall by:
- 10% on Lane Cove Tunnel.
- 10% on M2 for longer journeys (80% of trips).
- 50% for motorcyclists progressively.
Tolls for the Harbour Bridge and Harbour Tunnel will increase by 3.25% from 1 July 2027.
From 2028, some tolls will fall by:
- 10% on M7 distance cap from 1 January.
- 20% on Cross City Tunnel when Western Harbour Tunnel opens.
Essential to know
When the Western Harbour Tunnel opens in late 2028:
- Harbour Bridge and Harbour Tunnel will have 2-way tolling.
- 53% of northbound toll to be paid each way on Eastern Distributor
